The cost-of-living is getting harder and harder for most people as they fight against the gas and electric bills as well as buying essentials such as food. Drivers across the UK are putting off vital safety checks on their vehicle to try and save some extra money. It has been said that younger drivers are the most likely to skip on these important checks.

IAM RoadSmart conducted an investigation into this and the data they found was shocking…

79% of motorists aged between 18-34 have delayed key vehicle checks to save money.

28% of drivers under 34 have held off their annual car service due to the cost of living crisis.

30% have put off getting their oil changed.

28% of motorists delaying changing their tyres with low tread.

However, despite the rise in younger drivers putting off these checks, it was found that 15% of all aged drivers said that their annual car service is not a priority. 11% of those admitted to avoiding paying out for necessary tyre changes.

“Rising living costs are at the front of mind for everyone this year, especially young people. So, while this data is not surprising, it is very worrying that drivers are putting off essential repairs”
