A Halfords Technician in Staffordshire has been given a 10 month prison sentence for issuing 26 MOT pass certificates for cars that never appeared in the garage.

Due to this mishap, halfords lost around £1200 in revenue however Judge Roderick Henderson said, “It’s not about the money, it’s the risk to the public of unchecked cars going on the road.”

Scott Anderson, the defendant, got a 10 month prison sentence and was ordered to pay £500 towards the legal and investigation costs of the case which exceeded £3400.

Anderson got caught by his manager and colleague, as he was using the system inappropriately when they were off sick and not on the system. He first stated it was a mistake but his crimes went back as early as 8th July 2021 and 30th September 2021 showing it wasn’t just a mistake.
